ISG PREDICTS: The Reinvention of Sourcing in the Agile Enterprise

Sourcing will shift to continuous analytics and response, enabling a greater decentralization of sourcing to align more closely with the business and shift from a disproportionate emphasis on cost control to a more balanced focus on revenue growth, speed, cost and risk. This will also shift traditional category management strategies to multi-category product orientation. Different sourcing capabilities will be required to shape strategy with strong expertise in advanced analytics, digital technology, collaboration and orchestration. Sourcing and Vendor Management technology will become increasingly autonomous, enabling intelligent automation of discovery, analytics and coordination and empowering Sourcing's shift to strategic orchestration.

ISG INSIGHTS: Next Gen Procurement powered by Data

World class procurement functions are undergoing distinct transformation where they continue to move from experiential decision-making to data backed decision-making. Procurement leaders are blessed with hordes of data and historic records which is mostly internal. They are constantly seeking market inputs from a variety of external sources to make sound, long term business decisions for their organizations. This can happen only through a digital transformation where the existing data sources, infrastructure, platforms and recommendation engines are challenged and re-engineered. Needless to mention, talent upskilling is a key area of transformation.

To be competitive, procurement organizations need to cover three key areas when developing their digital strategy:

  • How to create business value
  • How to get necessary enablements in place
  • How to build or integrate a solid data foundation

We will dig into ISG’s comprehensive and unique set of data, analytics, and market intelligence built through 30 years of sourcing and benchmarking, data collection and analysis, and showcase the digital business transformation in procurement/supply chain functions.

Recession or Not, It's Time to Relook at Cost Optimization

Whether or not we are entering a recession, strategic cost optimization now is critical, but requires new thinking beyond traditional cost-out approaches. Managing costs at the speed of digital requires a shift in thinking from long-term fixed commitments to long-term strategic relationships. It requires a deliberate effort to preserve options and provide constant updates to the ecosystem. This means organizations must constantly sense, analyze and respond to operational and cost data across functions in a way that incorporate the business, technology, sourcing/vendor management, data science and finance.
